Kristen Sawada and the University of Hawaii at Hilo women’s golf team grabbed the first-round lead Monday at the Pacific West Conference championship on the Hawaii Prince Golf Course on Oahu.

Kristen Sawada and the University of Hawaii at Hilo women’s golf team grabbed the first-round lead Monday at the Pacific West Conference championship on the Hawaii Prince Golf Course on Oahu.

Sawada’s 2-over 74 was one shot better than California Baptist’s Marvi Monsalve. In a tied for third place, was UHH’s Jade Salvador at 76.

Kacie Harada and Dayna Bersamin at tied for 10th place at 9-over-par 81 while Nyssa Aoki was tied for 24th place with an 86.

The Vulcans hold a three-stroke lead over Cal Baptist, 312– 315. In third place is Academy of Art (319) followed by Point Loma Nazarene (325), Dixie State (337), Hawaii Pacific (347), Dominican (352) and Holy Names (534).

— The Hilo Vulcan Booster Club’s monthly luncheon will be held at noon April 29th at the Coqui’s Hideaway Restaurant on Kamehameha Avenue.

Guest speakers for this final lunch of the school year will be coach Earl Tamiya and the men’s golf team, which just captured the PacWest Conference golf championship, and a representative of the women’s golf team.

The cost of the lunch is $15 per person.
